Scent Work (also known as Nose Work)
We are pleased to offer a course in Scent Work and welcome Gina Reid from Tokoroa as our instructor.
Scent Work is growing rapidly around the country and is a fun activity involving dogs seeking and finding scents hidden in different environments and settings, inside and outdoors.
As we know, a dog’s sense of smell is far beyond ours and they love to use it!
Participating in Scent Work is an excellent form of mental stimulation and enrichment for your dog. Any dog can join this class including dogs who can no longer take part in sports requiring more vigorous exercise because of age or physical issues, likewise any handler – age or level of fitness are irrelevant.
Scent work can increase a dog’s confidence and for those with lots of energy, can help them to focus.
Requirements
Passing a Basic Skills course is required before starting Scent Work training. The dog is responsive to its handler, and the handler has a reasonable level of control over the dog. As the Scent Work training is essentially individual, it can be suitable for those dogs who do not do well in a class environment, where they are put off by other dogs or are reactive to other dogs.
Dogs may enter Scent Trials from the age of 6 months.
If you are interested in Scent Work training, please contact Vicky Graham (0211042945) before registering to discuss the training and check if your dog would be suitable.
