Scent Work

Scent Work is based on the tasks of detections dogs. It is a positive and challenging activity that gives dogs the chance to use their strongest natural sense in a fun and engaging way, which helps build trust between the handler and dog.

The dogs are trained to recognise specific odours and alert their handlers when the scent is detected.

The searches are carried out in several different environments; indoors, outdoors, and vehicles.

Requirements

There is no requirement to undertake any obedience training at the club before starting Scent Work training. The dog is responsive to its handler, and the handler has a reasonable level of control over the dog. As the Scent Work training is essentially individual, it can be suitable for those dogs who do not do well in a class environment, where they are put off by other dogs or are reactive to other dogs.

Dogs may enter Scent Trials from the age of 6 months.

If you are interested in Scent Work training, please contact Brian Robinson on 027 444-1535 before registering to discuss the training and check if your dog would be suitable.
